Directions By Car (from Totnes)
As you leave Totnes, take the road heading towards Kingsbridge. Go straight on at the traffic lights, up the hill along the dual carriage way. Go past the turning back into town and take the first turning left towards Tuckenhay. Drive up the hill, past Bowden house and keep following the signs to Tuckenhay. You will eventually reach the Ashprington crossroads, turn right down the hill towards Bowbridge, Tuckenhay and Cornworthy. At the bottom of the hill, just before a stone bridge which leads you to Tuckenhay take a sharp turning right. Eventually this road will lead you to Harberton Ford. Western Barns is the third turning on the right, little more than a track it has a sign on it that reads “Small well lane, Cross Lanes. Unsuitable for vehicles.” Follow it up and as it splits keep on the left and you will see Western Barns. If you are driving, please try and car share wherever possible.
Please note!!!! There are two entrances to Small Well Lane, make sure the sign says Cross Lanes as the other one will lead you on to a muddy track and you are likely to get stuck!!!!

Walking or cycling (from Totnes)
You can walk/cycle to western barns along the Sharpham Valley. From the plains, head towards the steam packet pub along the River Dart. Once at the pub, if you are walking you should see a boat yard directly in front of you.
Walk through the boat yard and on your right you should see a footpath sign, follow it all the way to Ashprington. As you are coming down the hill into Ashprington you will see a mini round about with a war memorial in the centre, take the right exit up the hill. Turn left along a bridal path (again look out for the footpath sign) about half way up the hill. This Bridal path can be extremely muddy if it has been raining hard so beware! The path is overgrown in places so be careful. Follow this path for about 20 minutes and it will eventually lead you down a hill where the road splits and becomes concrete. Western Barns is on the right.
If you are cycling, head right directly up the hill away from the Steam packet pub. You will see a cycle path route on your left, follow it all the way to Ashprington. For the adventurous follow the footpath directions above….If not, head down the hill and before the stone bridge to Tuckenhay you should see a road diagonally opposite which leads to Harberton Ford, follow this road and Western Barns is the third turning on the right.
Walking is approximately 1 and a half hours, Cycling forty minutes.
